Fill Stucco Holes So They Disappear

Every fixture that comes off a stucco wall leaves fastener holes, a hole for wiring and often a shadow of the old outline. We seal what is behind the hole, rebuild it to the full thickness of the wall and match the finish around it.

  • Removed fixtures & signs
  • Dish & antenna mounts
  • Impact & pest holes
  • Texture & color matched

More than a filler

Why holes need more than caulk

A hole in stucco is an open path to the weather barrier. Rain that runs down the wall finds it, and a dab of caulk or a plug of spackle shrinks, cracks around its edges and lets that water in. Larger holes often have torn paper, bent lath or a cut in the sheathing behind them that nobody saw.

We start by cleaning the hole back to sound stucco and looking inside. Torn barrier gets a lapped patch, damaged lath is replaced, and old anchors, sleeves and cut wires are removed or made safe. Then the hole is filled in layers, not in one thick lump, so each layer cures without slumping or shrinking away from the sides.

Homeowners call us after taking down a satellite dish, a security camera or an outdated light. Property managers call when a tenant moves out and leaves a sign pattern across a storefront. Both jobs end the same way: a finish that matches. For blending larger areas, see stucco patching; if the hole came from a hit, see impact repair.

Where holes come from

Holes we fill every week

The source matters, because it tells us what is likely damaged behind the surface.

Lights & cameras

Old fixtures leave a large wiring hole plus anchor holes, and the box behind may need to be removed or reset.

Wiring made safe first

Dishes & antennas

Mounting brackets leave lag holes that have usually been leaking along the bolts for years.

Check behind every bolt

Signage & letters

Removed storefront letters leave rows of studs, raceway holes and a ghost outline on the facade.

Outline blended out

Impacts

Ladders, balls, mowers and doors punch holes that crush the coats and can bend the lath underneath.

Rebuilt to full depth

Birds & pests

Woodpeckers and insects bore into foam trim and EIFS; we repair the hole and the pest company handles the rest.

Common on foam and EIFS

Abandoned penetrations

Old dryer vents, hose bibs, cable lines and AC lines leave openings that were never properly closed.

Size changes the method

From screw holes to missing sections

A quarter-inch anchor hole and a fist-sized puncture need different repairs. Tiny holes can be filled flush and touched up. Anything larger needs a backing to build on, and holes that broke the lath or barrier need those layers rebuilt before any stucco goes back.

EIFS walls are their own case: a hole in the foam is cut out cleanly, a new foam plug is fitted and the mesh and base coat are lapped past the edges. Hard coat stucco is rebuilt with cement coats over lath.

Filling a hole

Three steps to a closed wall

Small holes take one or two short visits; larger ones are layered over several days to cure properly.

Clear & look inside

Old anchors and loose edges come out, and we check the barrier, lath and sheathing behind the opening for damage or moisture.

  • Anchors removed
  • Barrier inspected
  • Moisture checked

Back & fill in layers

We patch the barrier, add lath or foam where needed and build the hole back up in coats until it sits flush with the wall.

  • Torn paper lapped
  • No single thick plug
  • Each coat cured

Texture & color

The finish is textured to match and tinted with custom pigment and aggregate; sign outlines may need the whole panel refinished.

  • Hand-matched texture
  • Custom color mix
  • Edges feathered

Questions & answers

Filling stucco holes: common questions

What homeowners and property managers ask after something comes off the wall.

What is the best way to fill holes in stucco?
Clean the hole, repair anything torn behind it, then fill it in thin layers with a compatible exterior material rather than one thick plug. Finish by matching the texture. Caulk and interior spackle are not durable fillers outside.
Can you hide the outline left by a removed sign?
Usually, but it may take more than filling the holes. Paint and dirt often leave a shadow where the letters sat, so we may refinish the full panel between joints or corners for an even look.
How do you fix woodpecker holes in EIFS?
We cut out the damaged foam, fit a new foam piece, embed mesh in fresh base coat past the edges and apply a matching finish. Repeated bird damage is worth discussing with a wildlife or pest professional too.
Will the filled hole show?
Small holes typically vanish once textured and tinted. Larger repairs on faded or painted walls may show a slight difference until the wall is recoated, and we will tell you up front if we expect that.
Can you fill holes after I remove my satellite dish?
Yes. Dish mounts are a common leak point, so we check the sheathing behind the lag bolts, seal it and rebuild the stucco. Send us a photo or call (888) 592-1304 to set up a visit.
