Stucco in Ball Ground

A small town with new walls

For most of its history Ball Ground was a handful of brick commercial buildings, churches and farmhouses along the railroad. Stucco was rare. That has changed as subdivisions and custom homes have filled the land around town, many of them finished with stone and stucco fronts or full hard coat elevations.

New construction brings its own problems. We are called to homes only a few years old where the stucco was applied too thin, where control joints were left out on long walls, or where no kick-out flashing was installed at the bottom of a roof line. The rolling ground around Ball Ground adds another factor: walls on the uphill side of a house can sit close to soil and mulch, and stucco that runs below grade stays wet.

Downtown, older masonry storefronts sometimes carry stucco on side walls or upper facades that needs careful patching. Since Ball Ground sits just up the road from our Canton headquarters, we know the area well. Learn about hard coat stucco, kick-out flashing and home stucco services.

What the land and the building pace do

Quick construction and sloped lots are behind most of the Ball Ground stucco problems we see.

Sloped lots

Hillside grading puts stucco close to the soil on one side of the house, which keeps the base of the wall damp and hides termite activity.

Keep a clearance at grade

Recent subdivisions

Homes built quickly can be missing control joints, kick-outs or proper sealant at windows, and the first cracks often appear within a few years.

Catch defects while small

Historic main street

Brick commercial buildings downtown need patches that bond to old masonry and blend with finishes applied decades ago.

What our customers say

Georgia homeowners and commercial clients on working with ASR.

“We had numerous issues with the stucco on our newly constructed home… The stucco has a unique texture and is pigmented so we were really concerned about getting a good aesthetic match on the repairs… The stucco finish looks incredible and perfectly matches the house in color and texture.”

Questions & answers

Ball Ground stucco questions

Common questions from Ball Ground homeowners and building owners.

Does the City of Ball Ground issue building permits?
Yes, for property inside city limits; the City of Ball Ground handles residential and commercial permits through City Hall. If your home is outside city limits, check with Cherokee County instead. Cosmetic patching usually needs no permit, while additions and re-cladding generally do.
My Ball Ground house is only a few years old and the stucco is cracking. Is that normal?
Fine hairline cracks are common as a new house settles. Cracks that run diagonally from window corners, open wider over time or appear with stains below them are worth an inspection, because they often point to missing joints or flashing.
Can you add stucco to an addition and make it match the house?
Yes. We blend pigment and aggregate to match the existing color and texture, and tie the new lath and weather barrier into the old wall so the joint between them does not crack or leak.
Should soil and mulch touch the bottom of my stucco?
No. Stucco that runs into soil or mulch soaks up water and hides insect activity. Keep a gap above grade at the weep screed; if your grading makes that hard, we can repair the base of the wall and coordinate with your pest control company.
Do you repair stucco on older downtown buildings?
Yes. We use mixes that are compatible with old brick and match the existing finish, so the repair does not trap moisture in the masonry or stand out on the facade.
